4ème DE CHASSEURS

The 4th Chasseurs is a Merovingian regiment operating under Special Operations Command. Its role is to undertake reconnaissance and other special action missions—Renseignement et Actions Spéciales—silently penetrating to the very heart of enemy positions. Since the Separatist Wars, during which the Merovingians found themselves surrounded by adversaries, the Chasseurs have specialized in military operations designed to hold defensive lines and detain the advance of enemy forces. Thanks to their remarkable instinct for combat and their unusual preferences in armed tactics, the Merovingian commandos provide indispensable capabilities in the defense of Arihttps://store.corvusbelli.com/wargames/infinity/codeone/ariadna-booster-pack-betaadnan territories and interests. Respected as much for their qualities as fighters as for their experience, the members of the 4th Chasseurs nevertheless provoke more than a frisson of disquiet amongst their admirers due to their characteristic habit of christening their weaponry with pretty sounding, feminine, French names.
STRELOKS, KAZAK RECON UNIT
“Волко́в боя́ться — в лес не ходи́ть.” (“Volkov boyaat'sya — v les ne khodit'”, “If you fear the wolves, don't go into the woods.”) Strelok Unit motto.
Despite its name, the Kazak Recon Unit was created to carry out military operations in enemy territory or highly unstable regions, such as the AEZ or the Cossack Protectorate. In addition to furtive patrol duties, its functions include long-term indirect operations such as guerrilla warfare and other clandestine and low-visibility offensive ops. They have specialized in silent approach techniques, ground recon, and night combat, all of which are just as effective as they are deadly. Although the Streloks perform surveillance duties, the unit’s name defines its major operating role, since Strelok (Стрелок) means “shooter” in Russian. The unit is known for its highly aggressive tactical profile when engaging with the enemy. While their operating area before the Separatist War was the internal borders with the other Ariadnan nations, the climate of stability following the Unification of Ariadna under Kazak control would see them transferred to the external borders, where their aggressive style would prove less troublesome. There, its main task was containing the Antipode incursions, until contact with the Human Sphere upped the stakes.
The arrival of corporations greedy for Teseum and other valuable raw materials resulted in a dramatic increase in the number of mercenaries and adventurers in the frontier regions, lured in by the promise of a quick buck from the large corporations. Ever since this unit has specialized in scouring the Ariadna Exclusion Zone bordering Tartary in search of illegal prospecting expeditions financed by corporations from the Sphere and has even assembled K-9 teams with trained Antipodes. The Streloks are used to combating the hired guns that usually escort these groups, which is how they made a name for themselves during the Smuggler Wars. They were so effective in their duties and garnered such a reputation that the greatest trophy among mercenary teams was a patch with this unit’s insignia. Neither antipode fangs nor Dog-Warrior claws were as valuable; it was that patch that branded you as a real tough guy. Of course, there were few who could actually show off such an award, and those who did so for a short time because the Streloks always avenge their fallen comrade. The moniker "shooter" hasn’t been earned for nothing.
THE UNKNOWN RANGER
“Old Rangers never die, they regroup in hell and kill the enemy twice.” The supposed motto of the Unknown Ranger.
The Unknown Ranger is a legend born in the trenches during the Separatist Wars. A story told by soldiers, at night, by the tenuous light of cigarettes. The story of a Ranger officer who saw all of the men under his command die during a special operation that failed. Wounded and left for dead, this Ranger made the solemn oath to consecrate his life to honor his fallen comrades and to help any USAriadnan soldier who needed aid. Crossed off of the list of actives, and with his face always covered, no one knows who he is or what he looks like, he has become a symbol that represents all of the anonymous Rangers who have fought for USAriadna.
An unknown hero, a deniable resource for the Department of Defense, invisible to the system, nonexistent in the registries, the perfect asset. An isolated operative is the incarnation of the doctrine of the Special Operations Command of the USARF: “a Ranger in the right place, at the right time, can affect the entire course of a war.” The legend says that he is immortal and that although he has been seen to fall on the battlefield, he will always return from death at the moments of his country's need, raising his shield to protect his brothers in arms. The Unknown Ranger is credited with breaking the siege of the Decatur base during the Separatist Wars, the death of Chief Ice Back in the Second Antipode Offensive, and the success of the defense of Deadwood at the end of the Ariadnan Commercial Conflicts, but his legend and reputation go further still. Many claims to have seen him in the middle of the heat of battle, when defeat seems inevitable, taking command and turning the tables of combat, converting a desperate situation into another victory, and disappearing in the smoke when it had all finally ended.
