The Überfallkommando is the field unit of the Sports Crimes section of the Moderator Corps. This section belongs to the Vice Unit of the Detectives Office, Department of Covert Operations. The mission of this section is to identify, investigate, and dismantle criminal organizations involved in sports-related crimes by infiltrating them at street level and ascending to their higher echelons. In the vernacular of law enforcement, the term ‘sports’ stands for the illicit Aristeia! fighting scene and its associated illegal body modifications. Due to its uncommon traits, the Überfallkommando is oftentimes employed in shock assaults in urban settings and riot control operations, hence the name, which means mobile squad or riot squad.
As undercover agents, officers in this police unit must curry favor with the criminal element. In order to infiltrate illegal Aristeia! circuits, they undergo aggressive physical modifications to become Chimeras, humans unlawfully altered for combat, violence, and brutality. A career in Sports Crimes can yield the most outrageously illegal grafts VaudeVille’s BouBoutiques and Praxis’ Black Laboratories can provide. The bizarre appearance of Überfallkommando Chimeras is jarring even in the discordant streets of Bakunin, but it is perfect camouflage for their line of work. So much so in fact that they are occasionally targeted by unlucky Chimera Hunters.
Members of the section are usually escorted by a small pack of combat-trained Pupniks as part of their cover as fighters in the underground Aristeia! circuit. The Pupniks also come in very handy whenever an Überfallkommando takes on a riot control role, and even more so when they collaborate with the Morlock Gruppe.
The existence of Pupniks is illegal in itself. These are perverse creatures with a stunted intellect, no more cognizant than a trained dog. Their brains are comparable to a small ape’s, but they exhibit the unpredictable instinct and sharp cunning of the most dangerous predators Praxis’ degenerate geneticists have been able to concoct in their vats. In fact, Pupniks are so violent they must be restrained at all times. There are numerous different Pupnik breeds in the criminal underground, and many more mongrels. Some have been bred for fighting; others, for sex. Most often, they serve both purposes.
