The Human Sphere is the collective name for the group of star systems inhabited by humans. There are eleven of these systems: Earth, Neoterra, Acontecimento, Varuna, Yu Jing (Shentang and Yutang), Bourak, Concilium, Svalarheima, Paradiso, Human Edge, and the latest addition—Dawn.
EARTH
The cradle of Humanity and origin of PanOceania. A place of natural and cultural treasures. Cities full of history but nearly uninhabited. The expansion of PanOceania caused an exodus to the stars that depopulated entire regions. Politically, Earth is mostly dominated by religious institutions and a weakened European Union that represents the humanist side of PanOceania.
NEOTERRA
The capital planet of PanOceania. Seat of the state and planetary Governments, of the Church and of the Military Complex. The first system to be discovered and colonized by PanOceanian explorers. The center of finance and R&D in PanOceania, it is home to the most important technology companies in the Sphere, and a daily destination for many businesspeople.
ACONTECIMENTO
PanOceania’s breadbasket and factory planet. The second system to be added to the Sphere, Acontecimento saw massive colonization by Latinos and other PanOceanian ‘minorities’. Acontecimento is a planet of contrasts. Endless crop fields and pastures alternate with vast, sprawling factory compounds that meet most of the industrial needs of PanOceania.
Acontecimento also has one of the largest Natural Parks in the Human Sphere, the Great Arboreal Reserve, the last remnant of the planet’s original biome.
VARUNA
The ocean planet. The third extraterrestrial planet was found and the first populated with a semi-intelligent native species, the amphibian Helots. Home to the water gods, Varuna is a planet of small islands and soil is scarce. For this reason, visitors will be amazed by the architecture of sea platforms, subaquatic buildings, and artificial islands.
Varuna harnesses the full potential of its oceans in the form of biotechnological research and sea factories and farms that employ numerous Helots. Regrettably, sporadic acts of violence carried out by a handful of Helot insurgents who call themselves Libertos sometimes disturb the quiet charm of this beautiful planet.
SHENTANG Y YUTANG
The discovery of the double planetary system Yutang-Shentang forced the authorities of the StateEmpire to establish a colonization program even more ambitious than expected. However, historically, colossal projects are intrinsic to Chinese politics, and they do not intimidate Yu Jing leaders.
BOURAK
A desert planet with a very unforgiving climate - it is currently in the process of being terraformed. It features lush oases and nature preserves that support the farming of Silk, the precious substance needed for Cube and Resurrection technology.
Bourak is the home of Haqqislam, a unified power and a state comprising both those faithful to Allah and seekers of Knowledge that come from the entire Human Sphere. Mirroring this diversity, the planet is divided into different semi-autonomous democratic regions that have their own characteristic and distinct idiosyncrasies, but they are all fully committed to the Search for Knowledge - the philosophical journey of Haqqislam.
CONCILIUM PRIMA
This is the seat of O-12 - the interplanetary organization with total jurisdiction over the Human Sphere. In Concilium Prima, the laws that even the great powers must abide by are decreed, and the path humanity must take towards its great destiny among the stars is traced. This planet had to be terraformed to make it habitable, and it is one of the most sparsely populated worlds in the entire Sphere. Most of the population is concentrated in the so-called Living Cities, a very functional landscaped urban space of great beauty.
Concilium Prima is home to O-12 and all its Bureaus, as well as to the Öberhaus and the High Court - where the Senate of O-12 votes on and enforces various laws. If Earth is the spiritual core of humanity, Concilium Prima is its political heart - a heart that, after the Cerberus Crisis, has been threatened by the alien invasion. The Combined Army now bides its time after having seized control of the antarctic region of the planet.
SVALARHEIMA
The snowball of discord. It is so distant from its star that its freezing temperatures make life nigh impossible save between its tropics. Despite the extreme climate, Svalarheima is a coveted piece of real estate due to the abundance of resources, particularly Teseum.
PanOceania is engaged in constant conflict with Yu Jing for control of the exploitable areas, of which it currently controls two-thirds to Yu Jing’s one-third. Svalarheima is not a popular tourist destination due to its drab, snow-covered landscapes, its functional, industrial-looking towns, and its status as a contested land always on the brink of an open confrontation between the superpowers.
PARADISO
One would be hard-pressed to find a less appropriate or more grimly ironic name for a planet. In our zeitgeist, Paradiso stands for unending war. It was one of the main arenas of the NeoColonial Wars, and the bridgehead chosen by the Combined Army for its offensive. Troops that served on Paradiso found a more accurate name for it: the Meat Grinder.
Paradoxically, Paradiso is a luxuriant, fruitful planet. In fact, by Earth measurements it is too fertile: most inhabitable land is solid rainforest—thick, exuberant, green, and suffocating. Plantlife on Paradiso has an overdeveloped capacity for growth that makes it a challenge not only to clear out settlement areas but to keep them clear. The planet’s biosphere is in a state of constant vibration, vigilance, movement, climb, and growth. A multitude of voracious maws is hidden in the verdure, preparing to leap over the unwary ones who dare to cross the emerald jungle of Paradiso.
DAWN
The hostile planet par excellence, featuring a harsh climate and beasts eager to devour anyone who gets in their way. Home to Ariadna - humanity’s first colony outside the Solar System. This planet was isolated for 150 years after its wormhole collapsed, leaving colonists stranded and having to fend for themselves against tribes of vicious Antipodes - the ruthless and fiercely territorial aliens native to this world.
After re-establishing contact with the Human Sphere, Dawn is still a frontier planet - a technologically backward place where Mother Nature is still the most lethal of enemies. Most importantly though, Dawn is rich in Teseum - a valuable neo-material that all powers covet and seek to attain at all costs. This is Ariadna’s strategic economic advantage, as they possess an asset to trade, and which Ariadna will not hesitate to defend from the greed of foreigners with its high-caliber ammunition and swords, made of the same material, by any means necessary.
HUMAN EDGE
Human Edge - the outer frontier. A system with no habitable planets, but full of riches that everyone covets. Despite being comprised mainly of asteroid belts rich in strategic minerals, and gas giants whose satellites contain the resources sought after by every corporation and power, the Asteroid colonies, orbital bases, deep space stations, and spacecraft are the only habitable places in this gigantic system - and the main stage for numerous conflicts. The story of the colonization of Human Edge, the most distant system ever discovered, is one written in blood. It is full of violence, driven by greed, and barely controlled by O-12 and the of the major powers with the business end of a high-caliber rifle.
