The Monstrucks, the colossal road trains that travel along the Sahm Highway, are fully automated vehicles. An autopilot and a cruise control system guarantee the best efficiency and security on one of the straightest roads in the Human Sphere. However, the territory that this highway crosses, the desert of Taba, is a hell of sand and rock where an emergency could ruin these gigantic trucks and their valuable cargo. That's why the Monstruckers are necessary, to solve emergencies. And an emergency for them may be regaining control of the truck after an unforeseen maneuver, or making a repair in transit (because the Monstrucks can’t stop), or repelling an assault from road bandits.
A mix of maintenance technician, pilot, and caravan escort, the profession of Monstrucker at times may be the most boring in the world, crossing hundreds of kilometers of absolute monotony, or the riskiest of all. In this job, you go from mind-numbing boredom to mortal danger in picoseconds. One moment you’re lying in the cabin of the truck half-drowsy and the next moment you’re pulling on your magnetic boots to run atop the wagon roofs to make an emergency repair because the wild sandstorm that lashes your body has blown off your servant remotes. And that’s if you are lucky because you could also be up there to throw off some Kum bikers who are trying to steal the cargo and who have managed to avoid the Monstruck’s perimeter defenses, many of them illegal, and that's when it comes time to get dirty and do things yourself. But when you are the immune system of the titanic Monstrucks, the alpha males of the asphalt, it’s obligatory to be the hardest son-of-a-bitch on the road.
